Comments: As Christmas approaches once again may I, on behalf of myself and my members, wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and time to reflect on "Absent Friends". Phil Hughes, (Secretary), Independent Vindicatrix of East Kent.
Comments: Originally from Weston-Super-Mare, I attended Vindicatrix March-May 1957. Remained in the MN for just two exciting years, then emigrated to Australia. Vindi training proved invaluable when in 1959 I enlisted in the Australian regular army. After a couple of years with 3RAR in Brisbane, transferred to RAE Small Ships based on beautiful Sydney harbour, just in time to help crew a LSM up through the G/Barrier Reef to New Guinea, Singapore, and many islands around S.E. Asia. Best wishes to all.

Comments: Who can forget Robbie Lynde barking out orders in his top hat to willing workers at the Nambucca down under reunion in 2002. Rob a 1941 Vindi lad served his time at sea during the war years. An Olympic diver, migrating to Australia to take on the bush as a cattle drover and raising from a rigger to Director of International Cranes. A yachtsman and motorhome traveler, a gifted and award winning writer, a man of all seasons and a gentleman – Rob you will be sadly missed. RIP.

Comments: It was with deep regret that I heard today that our 1939 Vindi Boy Bill Gould from Queensland has "crossed the bar" recently. Bill always looked very "dapper" and smart which belied his age. I'm sure that Bill lived life to the full and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. On behalf of the Independent Vindicatrix of East Kent I would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family & friends on their sad loss at this time but he is now at peace. Bill was one of life's real gentlemen and will be missed by many. R.I.P. Bill. Phil Hughes, (Secretary), Independent Vindicatrix of East Kent.

Comments: Spoke to Brian Hunt this morning (23/05/2015) after seeing a spread in the local free (Sun) newspaper regarding the MN & Vindi Boys. Brilliant conversation. I was a Vindi Boy (Deck) around 1960-1961 following a Seamanship & Navigation course at Kells Secondary Modern school in Whitehaven Cumberland which qualified me to jump a couple of ranks and kick-off as OS instead of Deck-boy which meant I had to stand my watch on the wheel of my first ship, a 4000 ton coastal freighter by the name of "Yewhill" registered in Leith, skipper's name Captain Sheekey. Loved every minute of my association with the MN right up until I "jumped ship" in Sydney in November 1965, (Met a nice Aussie girl and married her 12 months later). Who remembers the Boss's name at Vindi.... Captain Duguid (Do Good)
